Christening Gowns by Wendy Schoen
Back to Patterns

 Age of Innocence
Spiraling ruffles and soft cotton batiste combine to
make this christening gown magic.
Extra wide lace placed in rows form the yoke of the
dress while lace insertion forms a vee-shape at the
center of the bodice. The center panel is made of
organdy in order to contrast with the rest of the gown.
Lace bands also embellish the front panel and
gathered lace is attached to the hemline with entredeux.
The rest of the hem is embellished with folded tucks
running in line with the lace rows in front. The back
closes with three shell buttons and an organdy sash.
This project consists of glorious hand embroidery
techniques such as shadow work, eyelets, padded
satin stitch, and buttonhole padded satin stitch.
Machine techniques include lace to lace, gathered
lace to lace, lace to entredeux, and many others.
